Our articles are engineering notes, not professional advice

Everything on this site describes what we actually did on our own projects, and why. It is written for other people building small web games, and it reflects our constraints: a very small team, a preference for static hosting, and a taste for quiet games. Your constraints will differ. Treat our numbers as measurements of our game rather than as constants of nature.

Nothing here is legal, financial, medical or security advice. If you need any of those, you need a professional in that field, not a game studio's blog.

On the numbers we publish

When we quote a figure, whether that is a colour distance, a simulation result or a frame budget, we try to state the conditions it was measured under and the sample size behind it. Some of our measurements come from small samples. Where that is true we say so instead of presenting the number as settled. Simulation is not the same as watching real players, and we do not claim it is.

We also write about things we got wrong. A post describing a rejected mechanic is describing a decision we actually made and then reversed, not a hypothetical. If we change our minds again later, we would rather publish the correction than quietly edit history.

External links

We link to documentation, libraries and other people's writing. Those pages are not ours, we cannot vouch that they stay accurate, and a link is not an endorsement of everything else on the destination site.

Advertising and editorial independence

These pages may display third-party advertising. We do not write articles in order to promote advertised products, and advertising does not influence what we choose to build or publish. Advertisers have no input into our editorial content.

Software

Where we publish or describe code, it is offered without warranty of any kind. Test it in your own project before relying on it. If you find an error in something we published, please tell us. We would genuinely like to know.
